May 21, 2013 | 06:58 AM The Board of Directors of Civitan on the Pamlico recently voted to open up a drive for new members. The drive will begin immediately and will continue through the summer months.
Civitan on the Pamlico came into existence in the fall of 2011 is interested in increasing their current membership base. This is a civic organization whose mission statement focuses on assisting those with developmental disabilities, assisting other organizations that share the same mission, as well as supporting the community. Civitan on the Pamlico is part of Civitan International.
The club is expanding its meeting times so as to provide more opportunity to come together to discuss needs in the community. The club meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm, with the first meeting being held at the Blind Center on Third Street. Most meetings include a guest speaker from a local business or entity. Guest speakers in the past have included representatives from Ruth's House, Eagles Wings, The Blind Center, the Zion Shelter & Kitchen, and the Beaufort-Hyde Special Olympics. The meeting on the 3rd Thursday of the month will be at Grub Brothers Restaurant.
The success of this civic club depends on members who share the same drive, ambition and desire to assist the community, and who wish to offer a minimal amount of their time, while fulfilling a great mission statement.
Some of the mission projects that Civitan has conducted in the past include building handicapped ramps, building a deck at the Blind Center, assisting with Special Olympics, assisting with Relay for Life, and selling peanuts to send to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The club also held a Chinese Auction as a fund raiser for the club.
Joining Civitan on the Pamlico is a great opportunity to get involved in your community. Civitan on the Pamlico also provides a fun and social experience as well as an opportunity to network with other business professionals.
For membership information or if you wish to visit a meeting, please contact Janice LaBarbera at 402-6699, Lloyd May at 945-5761 or email us at civitanonthepamlico@gmail.com.
