Black pastors organize against Obama's position on homosexual marriage
July 31, 2012
It was bound to happen. We're surprised that it has taken this long.
An organization of black pastors is being organized to campaign against Barack Obama's support for homosexual marriage. CNN (consider the source as you read this) is reporting:
A group of conservative black pastors are responding to President Barack Obama's support of same-sex marriage with what they say will be a national campaign aimed at rallying black Americans to rethink their overwhelming support of the President, though the group's leader is offering few specifics about the effort.
The Rev. Williams Owens, who is president and founder of the Coalition of African-Americans Pastors and the leader of the campaign, has highlighted opposition to same-sex marriage among African-Americans. He calls this campaign "an effort to save the family."
"The time has come for a broad-based assault against the powers that be that want to change our culture to one of men marrying men and women marrying women," said Owens, in an interview Tuesday after the launch event at the National Press Club. "I am ashamed that the first black president chose this road, a disgraceful road."
At the press conference, Owens was joined by five other black regional pastors and said there were 3,742 African-American pastors on board for the anti-Obama campaign.
When asked at the press conference for specifics about the campaign – funding, planned events and goals – Owens said only that the group's first fundraiser will be on August 16 in Memphis, Tennessee. But Owens insisted that "we are going to go nationwide with our agenda just like the president has gone to Hollywood."
In May, Obama announced on ABC News that he thought "same sex couples should be able to get married." The president had previously said that he opposed gay marriage, but said in May that his views were personal and did not represent a policy change.
In a fiery Tuesday press conference at the press club, Owens said Obama was taking the black vote for granted and decried the idea of similarities between the gay rights movement and the civil rights movement, an assertion made by the NAACP following Obama's same-sex marriage support.
Owens has long been an opponent of gay marriage and consults with the National Organization for Marriage as a liaison to the black churches.
At the press conference, Owens said that Obama's support of same-sex marriage tantamount to supporting child molestation.

I applaud your stand and am so thankful that your coalition is not willing to support this issue. I must share this with you...The Lord spoke to my heart and let me know that those pastors and congregants who vote for Obama, He would not hold guiltless. He said there would be ministries that would fall because He couldn't bless a ministry that stood with and voted for a man who is deliberately defying the very Word of God that they preached from in their pulpits. He lat me know that whatever we vote FOR, we are attached to. God's people should be voting for the person who's values most closely line up with God's Word and not which party they belong to or the color of their skin. God is requiring His people to take a stand for what's right and as a white minister who has a black pastor, I am doing just that with my pastors blessing. God's way is right and President Obama is wrong! Thank you for your strength and courage! Rev. Angie Davis
The Lord Bless you Rev. Owens for standing on the Word of God and NOT ashamed to defend the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Well Done good and faithful servant, and what a witness for Jesus Christ our Saviour.Matthew 6:33-"SEEK YE FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS AND ALL THESE THINGS SHALL BE ADDED UNTO YOU".Love you Rev.
Romans 1 18-32 shows us just what God thinks of gay marriage. There is no such thing. God bless you for God's strength to stand up against what is so wrong in our country today. We can no longer shake our fist at God as tell Him we will do what we want. We need to get down on our knee's and ask God for His forgiveness. Praise God there are pastors like yourself willing to speak truth on this matter. May God bless & keep you Sir and your fellow pastors. His bondservant bought and paid for through the blood of Christ, janet
As a devout pro 1 man/1woman marriage and anti-abortion catholic, I applaud these ministers for taking a stand against the evils of the Obama adminstration. God bless you Rev Owens!
i am not in agreement with the president about his personal opinion on same sex marriage, even though I respect his right to have one. I wonder what will this fine group of men say and do about Romney and his devout Mormon faith! I know they must have very strong feelings that theynwill be expressing. There beliefs are not consistent with that of Jesus Christ.
Reverend Owens and all others who have commented, I applaud you. I never saw the color of a persons skin in my life, I saw the person. I am a Caucasian and I am married to man who is 25% Hispanic, and president of the Hispanic Forum. I have often told him how much I love the good people that I know that belong to the African American Community and the commitment so many have to living a good life. I love people who are good and thank you for not wanting to vote for a man because of the content of his character. I have always felt that the first black president should have been one from the ranks of the center of Black America, not a son of a sheep herder in Africa. He does not understand the pain that all of us, including myself, but mostly those who have suffered deep within their families the pains or prejudice. He is not like you. He is very very different.
When Obama took office he claimed he was against the gay movement. Now he claims to support them and has even given gays in federal jobs marital benefits. It is difficult to respect a man as our leader when he refuses to acknowledge God's law and also refuses to acknowledge God.
Further, he has not done anything to advance the black population; unemployment among blacks is still 14%. Because he is black, he feels he can do whatever he wants and the black populace will continue to support him. I think his actions towards the gay movement, his absence of God in his recitals, and his lack of help to the black community have brought him under fire.
May God have mercy on our once great nation and all its inhabitants.
I find it very disturbing that these black pastors are publicly going against our first Black President because he expressed his opinion. He has not made same-sex marriage the law of the land. It is appalling that these ignorant blacks would rally against Obama which means as voters, they support Romney, a Mormom whose history is consistent with not allowing blacks in the Morman church and viewing blacks as totally inferior to whites. The action of these pastors is a prime example of how blacks don't know how to stand together for the good of the whole black community in times of disagreement. Every other racial/ethnic group can unite and progress regardless of their disagreements. Blacks are their own worse enemies. Black genocide is taking place in the black communities daily among our young black men-where are the Black pastors on this issue? Go make a declaration at the Press Club with national TV coverage and talk about what you plan to do to address this issue. Also, my hope is that this collective effort backfires and the intelligent, independent thinker, multi-issue voters in their church will withhold their tithes and offerings in protest. I bet those Black pastors will shut their mouths. After all, we know what the bottom line is for most of them-money.
I find it very disturbing that a president, someone who leads our country, can be elected based on race. Blacks, as well as all ethic groups, should vote for that person based on their qualifications to hold that important office. Voting for a black president has not helped the black community; unemployment is at 14.1%. Obama has his own political agenda and it does not include the black population.
No, Obama has not made same sex marriage the law of the land; rather he has sold his soul for a vote. It might be well for you to do your homework to see that Obama did in fact give martial rights to federal workers; if this is not a stand for homosexually then please correct me. Also, you might want to research the Black community in the Mormon Church. While there are few Black parisheners in the United States Mormon Church, there are many in other countries. The Mormon Church has never restricted membership to exclude the Black populace. In the United States, Blacks have a Baptist background because this is the denomination they were most exposed to when they came to the US.
I think you have missed the point; these pastors are not standing together as a black community, but as a Christ community. The Bible talks about homosexuality and it is not PRO homosexuality. Further, we need to stand together as a country and stop this division. We need to get out of this white this, black that, etc. and think oneness. We are one people regardless of our color and the only way we are going to stop sinfulness and inequality is by banning together as one people. As long as satan can keep us divided, we are powerless. We need to respond as, "one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all".
Praise God! His word is our only TRUTH and our only ANSWER! We know we must HUMBLE ourselves, PRAY, SEEK HIS FACE, TURN FROM OUR WICKED WAYS only then will God forgive and heal our land. Thank you for standing for Christ and not man's opinion in Obama!
